Orlík Castle Day Trip with a Private Driver
Orlík Castle mirrors itself in the waters of the Orlík Reservoir and belongs to the Schwarzenberg family. White walls perched just above the water, family collections inside, and a sprawling English park all around. We’ll drive you straight there from Prague.
Why This Place
Orlík Castle: A Medieval Fortress Overlooking the Orlík Reservoir
The castle was founded in the second half of the 13th century by King Přemysl Otakar II as a watchtower over the Vltava River. During the Hussite Wars it served as a stronghold for the Utraquists, and later the Švamberk family rebuilt it into a Renaissance château. Since 1802 it has been the seat of the Orlík branch of the Schwarzenbergs, who still own it today.
In the 20th century the castle was nationalized for over forty years, and after the Velvet Revolution it was returned to the Schwarzenberg family. The estate is protected as a cultural monument and offers guided tours of the historic interiors as well as the vast English park with views over the reservoir.
From Prague, Orlík Castle is roughly 90 km away — a private car ride of about 1.25 hours. Your driver will take you comfortably right to the gate, so you can enjoy the day without worrying about parking.
