Františkovy Lázně is the smallest of the three West Bohemian spa towns — all Empire-style symmetry, yellow facades lined up one after another, and at the center a column topped with a statue of František that people touch for good luck. Františkovy Lázně – history and nature in one place
Františkovy Lázně sits way out in western Bohemia, just a few kilometers from Cheb. It was founded at the start of the 19th century and has kept its calm, symmetrical character ever since — cream-and-white houses, straight tree-lined avenues, and plenty of green.
The town’s symbol is a little statue of a boy named František. Among the spa buildings you’ll find František’s Spring with its rotunda and colonnades where people sip the healing water. Since 2021, the town has been part of the UNESCO listing for the Great Spa Towns of Europe.
From Prague it’s about 195 kilometers by car, and the drive takes roughly two and a half hours. With a private driver, you go direct — no transfers, no hunting for connections.

Historic and natural highlights right in the town centre
The František Statue
This bronze statue of a boy named František is the symbol of the spa. Legend has it that touching his fish grants a wish for a child.
It stands in the spa park and is probably the most photographed spot in town.
Spa Springs
Františkovy Lázně boasts over twenty cold mineral springs and therapeutic peat. The treatments here focus mainly on heart and women’s health.
You drink the water directly at the springs. Each one has a different composition and taste.
Lake Amerika
Nearby Lake Amerika is a popular spot for swimming and walks. A pleasant path runs around it.
In summer, it’s a great place to relax by the water — a nice contrast to the spa centre.
St. Olga Orthodox Church
The Orthodox Church of St. Olga is a reminder of the Russian spa guests of the past. Inside, it’s decorated with an iconostasis and colourful icons.
It’s a quiet stop on a stroll through town.
Slatinný Stream
This stream flows through the town, feeding the spa's water system. Its banks are a favorite spot for a peaceful stroll.

One of the main districts, home to historic buildings and the spa colonnades.
