Bouzov Castle (originally Búzov) sits in the village of the same name, southwest of Loštice in central-western Moravia. It looks like a perfectly preserved medieval monument, but its current appearance comes from a romantic reconstruction at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Protected as a cultural monument since 1964, it was listed as a national cultural monument in 1999.
The castle’s history goes back to the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. The first documented owner was Búz of Bouzov between 1317 and 1339. Over the centuries, it passed through the hands of the Lords of Kunštát, the Haugwitz family of Biskupice, the Teutonic Order, and even SS units. Today, the castle is managed by the National Heritage Institute and is a popular filming location.
