Why go here

Rabí Castle: the most extensive castle ruins in Bohemia

Rabí Castle sits in the town of the same name in the Klatovy district, at an elevation of 529 meters. Its grounds have been listed as a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1978. The ruins are now managed by the National Heritage Institute, and the restored spaces house a small museum.

The castle’s origins go back to the first half of the 13th century, when it was founded by the Wittelsbach family. Later owners included the Lords of Budětice and the Švihovský family of Rýzmberk. The most significant reconstruction took place in the late Gothic period, when the castle gained extensive but unfinished fortifications. It fell into disrepair in the second half of the 16th century and was plundered by General Mansfeld’s army during the Thirty Years’ War.

From Prague, it’s about 155 kilometers — a private car ride of roughly 2 hours. Your driver will drop you right at the castle, so you can enjoy the tour without worrying about parking.
