Private Day Trip to Pernštejn Castle with Driver
Pernštejn is arguably the best-preserved Gothic castle in Moravia — a labyrinth of staircases, corridors, and halls that filmmakers love to use as backdrops. It sits above a river halfway between Brno and the Vysočina highlands.
Why This Place
Pernštejn Castle: A Medieval Fortress of Marble
Pernštejn Castle perches on a rocky spur above the Nedvědička River, on the eastern edge of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. Construction began no later than around 1270 as a typical noble bergfried-type castle. Even then, it stood out for the defensive cutting edge of its cylindrical Barborka tower, inspired by the royal Veveří Castle.
Over the centuries, Pernštejn underwent several renovations. At the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, the Lords of Pernštejn added the grand Knights' Hall and a new courtyard. Later came stucco reliefs by G. A. Corbellini and wall paintings in the bedroom and children's room. The castle is known as the "marble" castle thanks to the extensive use of local Nedvědice marble.
From Prague, Pernštejn Castle is roughly 200 km away — about a 2.5-hour drive by car. Your driver will take you all the way there in a private vehicle, so you can enjoy the trip without any transport worries.
Highlights
What You’ll See at Pernštejn Castle
The tour reveals medieval architecture, unique details, and Baroque ornamentation.

Pernštejn Castle
Pernštejn gradually evolved from a Gothic fortress into a comfortable noble residence. Its light stone window frames and oriels earned it the nickname “the marble castle.”
It has never been conquered in its entire history and ranks among the best-preserved castles in Central Europe.

Barbican and Gate
You enter the castle through a massive circular barbican. This forward bastion protected the main gate from attackers.
Above the Gothic portal is the carved coat of arms of the Pernštejn family. From here, the tour continues into the castle’s interior.

Covered Wooden Bridge
High above the ground, a covered wooden bridge connects the guard tower to the palace. It’s one of the most iconic views of Pernštejn.
The passage allowed safe crossing even during a siege. To this day, it looks like something straight out of a movie set.

Baroque Chapel
The castle chapel received rich stucco and painted decoration during the Baroque period. Frescoes of angels adorn the vault.
It’s one of the most ornate spaces in the castle, typically visited at the end of the tour circuit.
